Ihor Rantsya was recently ordained as a bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Paris, marking a notable step in the Church’s mission across Europe:
The consecration ceremony was led by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Head of the UGCC, with Bishops Borys Gudziak and Hlib Lonchyna as co-celebrants. The service brought together bishops, priests, and lay faithful from both the Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic communities, underscoring the significance of this event for ecclesial life in France.
Alongside his pastoral work, Bishop Rantsya has been engaged in academic and ecclesiological forums, and also participated (and presented) at our Stuttgart conference in 2019 and our Thessaloniki 2025 conference. These experiences demonstrate his dedication to dialogue, theological reflection, and collaboration within the wider Church.
Asked to comment on this appointment, Vladimir Latinovic remarked: “Attend EI conferences and wonderful things will happen to you.”
