John Calvin’s Ecclesiology: Ecumenical Perspectives edited by Gerard Mannion and Eddy Van der Borght
This collection explores the development and fundamental legacy of Calvin’s perspectives on and relationship with the church. Contributions are included which explore particular aspects of Calvin’s ecclesiological method and understanding of specific ecclesiological concepts, doctrines and ministries. Others focus on the later development and appropriation of Calvin’s ecclesiology, along with discussions of the ecumenical implications of Calvin’s understanding of the church, including comparative treatments of Calvin’s ecclesiology alongside the work of those such as James Sadolet, Ignatius Loyola, Jonathan Edwards, Abraham Kuyper and Thomas Torrance. Opening with a Foreword by Paul Avis and closing with an overview of recent ecclesiological trends in Calvin scholarship by Eddy Van der Borght, this is a volume that brings together leading and emerging theological voices from Europe, Latin America and North America and from across a range of theological specialisms and churches alike.
Contributors include: Paul Avis, Roger Haight SJ, Dennis Jowers, Sandra Arenas, Rose Beal, Amy Plantinga Pauw, Joshua Ralston, Alan Sell, John Halsey Wood, Stanley Maclean, Rodney L. Petersen, Eduardus Van der Borght and Gerard Mannion
