AAR – Final Call: The deadline for paper proposals for this year’s Annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion (San Francisco, November 17-21) is fast approaching (8th March 11.59pm EST). Details of the call for this year follow below and instructions for how to submit a proposal can be found here. Proposals are only accepted online through the OP3 AAR System (not via email).

We invite papers in three areas:
‘Ecclesiology and Islam’: Invited topics: historical and contemporary relationships between Islamic faith communities and churches; concepts of co-existence; multiple belonging; method in inter-faith encounters; relations in the Middle East, Islamic states, in Christian-dominated states; comparative theological papers concerning ‘Religion and Community’ (a la Keith Ward’s 2000 study).

Ecclesiology and Church Law:
Reflections on the relationship between ecclesiology and church law in different denominations invited, particularly interactions with wider debates raised by Ladislas Orsy’s Receiving the Council, 2009. Papers exploring analogous mechanisms of polity in other traditions; pertinent juridical reflections on the clerical abuse crises; Anglicanism’s recent debates concerning order; representation from marginal voices.

What is Distinctive about Methodist Ecclesiology? With Wesleyan Studies Group. Welcome topics: formal expressions, practices, institutions, mission and ministry from all branches of Wesleyan/Methodist family; Presentations from perspective of other traditions, especially perspective of ecumenical conversations, including bi-lateral dialogues, addressing Wesleyan/Methodist ecclesiological issues/problems posed by Methodist ecclesial practices/formulations.
